About the Library
The Central Medical Library was founded in 1947, together with the Faculty of Medicine in Skopje.
Founding and Organizational Structure
The Central Medical Library was founded in 1947, at the same time as the Faculty of Medicine. Initially, the Faculty and the Library were housed in the Central Hygiene Institute. In 1949, with the construction of the Institutes building, the Central Library obtained its own premises on the first floor of the building, and later on the ground floor, where it is still located today. In 1968, an additional one-story building was constructed in the courtyard of the Institutes. The total area of these two premises is 545 m².
In 1969, a prefabricated building in the “Nevena Georgieva-Dunja” student residence was adapted as a Student Library and reading room with an area of 180 m², where students could borrow books and study for midterms and exams.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and to improve access to the University Clinic for Infectious Diseases, this building was demolished in early March 2020. Since October 2021, the Student Library has been located in the former premises of the Institute of Social Medicine, and a new student reading room is located in the prefabricated building opposite the Clinic of Hematology. In November 2025, the building that housed the Student Library was repurposed for healthcare services, and its collection was transferred to the Central Library.
Since its founding, the Central Library has been part of the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Medicine and is under the direct management of the Dean.
